Weekend Failures

This past weekend was one of those where when I woke up this morning I look back and wish I could have a do over.  I had so many great plans set in my head of all the work I was going to get done this weekend and ZERO actually got done!  The laundry didn't get done, the picking up didn't get done, the cleaning didn't get done - all I did was spend 85% of the time laying on the couch watching Grey's on Netflix.  I spent about 20% of that time crocheting and 40% of it sleeping.  I'm trying to fight off my first cold of the season and thought resting would help - I woke up still stick this morning.  I also woke up this morning mad at myself because the apartment is still a mess and I was the one with total control over whether or not it was going to look that way this morning.  I hate being disappointed in myself.

I find cleaning on week nights to be tricky.  First, I get up at 5:30 each morning and don't get home from work until about 6:30 each night (the glamorous life commuting in a big city...).  By the time I change out of my suit, cook dinner, eat said dinner and clean up the mess in the kitchen who has time to start cleaning the bathrooms or bleaching the fridge or run back and forth from the laundry room just to turn around and spend another 9 hours at my desk with 90 min of commuting the following day????  Not me, that's who!

I'll take that last statement back, I'm going to try my best to do some work this week.  I'm ready for my apartment to be back in order after the wedding/honeymoon/other August traveling.

I also have not been successful in figuring out that stitch from my Friday night post!  I've looked through many of my books and online stitch dictionaries for a clue but no luck there either!  I've created a variation of a stitch that I use a lot instead.  It's not really at all what I thought this project was going to look like in the end, but I still like it for what it is.  Maybe someday I'll find a note from last Christmas in WNY about that black infinity scarf!

My Eggplant Infinity looks like this so far:

This is all Sunday morning work on the couch (it's longer than this - about 60").  I'd planned on working on this through out the Emmy's last night, but thanks to my final "failure" of the weekend, I was too annoyed to do anything.

I've sort of been dreaming about making this Cake Batter Ice Cream since I read about it.  I'd already purchased the GF cake mix to bake a cake for last night's dessert, but thought homemade ice cream (that Jonathan could also eat) would be MUCH more fun.  Well, I never had anything other than soup (which I angrily poured down my kitchen sink at 11:30 p.m. last night).  My ice cream core was frozen (in the freezer for about 20 hours) and the mix was cold.  90 minutes later it was still soup and the engine in my ice cream maker was warm enough from running so long that my core was starting to thaw.  I couldn't tell you what went wrong.  This has never happened to me when making ice cream in the past.  The only thing I can think of is that maybe the GF cake mix vs. regular made a difference - though I can't figure out how that stopped the milk and half and half from still doing it's thing!

  1. Oh no! I am so sorry that the ice cream didn't work! Try making it with 2 cups of whole milk and one cup of heavy cream. I know I changed the recipe from how I originally found it, to make it a little healthier. Here is the original link... http://www.food.com/recipe/cake-batter-ice-cream-128952 Hope it turns out the second time around!
